Our Mission
GIRL AND POWER exists because most writing aimed at girls falls into one of two traps: it is either relentlessly upbeat and says nothing, or it is alarmed and says too much. We try to do a third thing β describe the situation accurately, explain what the evidence supports, and be honest about where the evidence runs out.
We cover twelve areas: confidence and mindset, education, STEM, sport, early careers, money, physical health, mental health, online safety, rights and equality, individual stories, and the communities and families around all of it.
Who We Write For
Our readers are girls and young women in their teens and twenties, and the parents, teachers, coaches and mentors around them. We assume our readers are intelligent and busy. We do not write down to them, and we do not pad.
Editorial Standards
- Evidence first. Where research exists, we describe what it found and how confident it is. Where findings conflict, we say so rather than picking the more quotable one.
- Numbers in context. A statistic without its denominator, its date and its population is not information. We include those.
- No manufactured urgency. We do not turn a modest effect into a crisis, and we do not turn a real problem into a personal failing.
- Corrections. When we get something wrong, we fix it and say what changed.
- Transparency. We disclose AI assistance in content production and any affiliate relationships.
What We Avoid
We avoid advice that shifts a structural problem onto an individual's shoulders β the "just be more confident" genre in particular. Where a barrier is institutional, we say it is institutional. We also avoid content that shames bodies, diets, incomes or family circumstances.
